Karibu sana Mwenge Catholic University: Soaring with you to great heights!
A Catholic University at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro
The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has granted a fully fledged university status to Mwenge University College of Education, MWUCE, a constituent college of St. Augustine University of Tanzania SAUT). Following this development, Mwenge University College of Education is now officially Mwenge Catholic University (MWECAU).
The TCU letter granting this status to Mwenge University College of Education read in part that TCU “Grants approval to transform MWUCE to a fully fledged University called Mwenge Catholic University (MWECAU) with effect from the 2014/2015 academic year….”
This means that students to be admitted to MWUCE for the academic year 2014/2015 will be admitted and undertake their studies under the new Mwenge Catholic University (MWECAU). This is a big step in the academic arena of Tanzania.
Delivering the message to staff and students at the Mwenge University College Campus recently, the Principal of MWUCE, Fr. Philbert Vumilia thanked the Tanzania Commission for Universities for approving MWUCE to upgrade to a university status. He also congratulated both the staff members and students of MWUCE for contributing towards this achievement.
As Mwenge Catholic University (MWECAU) succeeds MWUCE, we applaud the milestones of this higher learning institution which has so far touched the lives of many people both within and outside the country.
MWECAU will continue the mission of MWUCE in her efforts to provide quality and integral education to the society of Tanzania and beyond as a fully fledged university.
MAIN THEME: SOCIO- ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN EAST AFRICA: CHALLENGES AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
29th TO 31st OCTOBER, 2014
VENUE: MWENGE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION - MOSHI TANZANIA
The role of any university besides teaching is to involve itself in community service and innovative research which will yield new knowledge that is key in addressing community problems and challenges. Looking at our country and many other countries in East Africa and beyond, there are many social, political and economic challenges which need immediate solutions. For example Tanzania in her Vision 2025 focuses on five important areas of concern namely: high quality livelihood; peace, stability and unity; good governance; a well educated and learning society and finally a strong and competitive economy. After more than ten years of the implementation of Vision 2025, one wonders whether the life of a Tanzanian is improving. Similar trends are also found in other East African Countries and beyond.
Mwenge University College of Education (MWUCE) as one of the stakeholders in the East African Community, is interested in bringing various scholars, academicians, economists, activists and many others in a conference to explore the socio- economic challenges to development and their possible solutions for East Africa.
